I have tried through Office 2007 but it tells me unable to scan, check connections, reinstall driver. I have already installed the new driver microsoft provided and completed the installation and a driver update. HP and Microsoft have a know issue for printers but I am now able to print but not scan

You will need to download the printer specific drivers from the HP website.
